Australians Emma de Groot and Brenna Elliott have bowed out of the US Women’s Amateur Championship at the Rhode Island Country Club in Rhode Island, but the dynamic 14 year old New Zealander Lydia Ko has porgressed to the second round.

Both De Groot and Elliott went down narrowly. Elliott from the Yarrawonga and Border Golf Club in southern New South Wales, lost her match against Tennessee golfer Brooke Pancake at the last while De Groot went down at the first extra hole to New York 15 year old Nicole Morales.

De Groot will be wondering what hit her after Morales produced birdies at her last three holes to draw level with the Coffs Harbour golfer before winning at the first extra hole.

Ko however was again impressive when defeating Californian Lauren Dobashi 4&3 and now takes on Hawaiian Stephanie Kono.
