The Nationwide Tour has just nine events remaining in its 2011 schedule and while this week’s News Sentinel Open Presented by Pilot at the Fox Den Golf Club in Knoxville in Tennessee offers one of the smallest purses of the year, the leading five players on this year’s money list line-up for the first time for a few weeks.
Several PGA Tour players are in this week’s field also after missing out on the FedEx Cup playoffs. Players such as Nathan Green, Boo Weekly, John Daly, Rocco Mediate and John Mallinger amongst others are no doubt keen to keep their games ticking over while they await the Fall Series events where they can hopefully play well enough to retain their status on the PGA Tour.
Matthew Goggin lost his number one position on the Nationwide Tour money list last week when two time winner this season, J.J. Killeen finished in 4th position and moved US$5,500 past the Australian. Both are in this week’s field and for Goggin it will be his first event in three weeks.
Killeen has developed into the work horse of the Nationwide Tour having played more events (17) than any other player in the current top 15 on the money list.
There are a total of 19 Australasians in the field including last week’s winner and joint runner-up James Nitties and Nick Flanagan.
