Simpson closes in on first tournament victory

South Australian Gary Simpson has moved one step closer to his first tournament victory after posting a -2 (70) in the third round of the $100,000 Victorian PGA Championship. Simpson began the day with a one stroke lead and then moved two strokes clear after finishing at -11.

Queenslander Steven Bowditch, a recent convert to the pro ranks, fired the best round of the day with a -5 (67), to leap into second place at -9.

Martin Doyle closed with a 69 and Craig Jones, a 72, to share equal third on -8 at the Kew Golf Club in Melbourne, Victoria.
