Ishikawa chases three-peat at Fujisankei

The Japan Golf Tour moves north to the base of Mt Fuji for this week’s Fujisankei Classic with Ishikawa chasing a three-peat in the event after victories in 2009 and 2010.

Ishikawa survived a playoff to win last year in 2009 won by five shots. The 19 year old stormed home to finish in a share of second last week in Fukuoka and appears set for another win.

Koreans Kim Kyung-tae and Bae Sang-moon hold the top two places on the domestic money list this season with very little separating the pair, Kim only $3000 dollars or so ahead. With Kim not playing this week however it offers the opportunity for last week’s winner, Bae, to move ahead.

Also missing from the field is the number three on the money list Yuta Ikeda.

This week’s event is again played at the Fujizakura Country Club the host venue for the past six years after moving from the event’s long time home at the famed Kawana Hotel.

The Australasian contingent is headed by their leading player (8th) on this season’s money list Brendan Jones who is played well last week before dropping three shots late in the event to finish 15th.

Jones was recently confirmed as a member of the two man Australian World Cup team along with Richard Green and will play this event before heading home ahead to Canberra of a busy end of season schedule.

Other Australasians in the field are Steve Conran, Brad Kennedy, former winner Paul Sheehan, Kurt Barnes, David Smail, Neven Basic, Chris Campbell, Neil Sarkies and Richard Lee.
