Typhoon disrupts Fujisankei Classic

The Japan Golf Tour’s Fujisankei Classic, south of Tokyo, has been severely disrupted by Typhoon Talas and the chances of the tournament being completed are still in doubt.

Thursday’s opening round was washed out when the golf course became unplayable due to the torrential rains and when round one finally got underway today only 14 holes were completed by the first group out before play was brought to a halt by a further deluge.

The disruptions have put the completion of the event in jeopardy but when play was suspended it was last week’s winner Bae Sang-moon and Japan Tour rookie Ryoma Iwai who led at 1 under.

There was some discussion as to whether round one should have even been started today but included amongst those who did get underway was Australia’s Brendan Jones who recovered from an early double bogey to be at even par through nine holes and just one behind the lead.

Ryo Ishikawa, seeking his third consecutive win in the event, is at 1 over through nine holes of his opening round.
