Favourites threatening at KLM Open

BY Bruce Young | European PGA Tour | 2011 KLM Open | Preview | 10 Sep 2011

The weather interrupted KLM Open at the Hilverschume Golf Club in the Netherlands has yet to complete 36 holes and a lot might yet happen before it does.

When play was called late in the day, 45 year old Welshman Stephen Dodd and Germany’s Marcel Siem share the lead at 8 under, just one ahead of India’s Shiv Kapur.

Only Kapur, amongst them, has played all 36 holes and with several leading chances still to complete their second rounds when play resumes on Saturday morning then things might just change dramatically before the cut is made.

Dodd has five holes to play and Siem seven while still on the golf course when play was called was the in form Simon Dyson who, through 11 holes of round two, is just two behind the leaders.

Rory McIlory and Lee Westwood produced second rounds of 65 and 66 respectively and are threatening danger for the weekend. McIlory is at 5 under and just three behind the current lead while Westwood is just one further back.

Brett Rumford leads the Australasians and at this stage appears likely to be the only one to make the cut. Rumford is at 1 under and in 36th position.

Marcus Fraser still has a chance but he will need at least two birdies in his final nine holes.
