Daniel Chopra and Jason Kokrak lead the Nationwide Tour Championship at the Ralston Creek course on Daniel Island in South Carolina, the pair locked at 10 under and two shots ahead of Robert Castro.
The long hitting Kokrak is a two time winner on the Nationwide Tour in 2011 and is already on his way to the PGA Tour but victory here and the accompanying US$180,000 could well see him top the money list at week’s end.
Chopra is on the cusp in terms of retaining his card. He was in 24th position amongst the leading 25 who would gain full status on the PGA Tour next season leading into this week’s event and this fast start has the Swede in great shape for a return to the PGA Tour. He has moved to 5th on the projected money list.
Chopra is a two time winner on the PGA Tour including a victory at the Tournament of Champions in 2008. Despite winning earlier in the season on the Nationwide Tour his chance of graduating was in jeopardy until he regained some form in recent weeks.
New Zealander Danny Lee is the leading Australasian in a tie for 4th position after his second round of 65 kept the door open to potentially lead the money list should he go on and win this week.
Mathew Goggin is in a share of 9th position and five behind the leader, he too chasing the possibility of leading the money list and the accompanying benefit of full playing rights for next year without any re-rank concerns.
Alistair Presnell is in 24th position, James Nitties 38th and Gavin Coles 53rd in the 60 man field.
Nitties started the week in 23rd position on the money list but on the revised and projected money list he has slipped outside the top 25. He will need a good weekend if he is to regain his PGA Tour playing rights.
