Jacobson has narrow lead at WGC HSBC

Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson has a one shot lead over South African Louis Oosthuizen and Australian Adam Scott at the halfway stage of the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, Jacobson continuing on from where he left off last week when 3rd in Malaysia behind Bo Van Pelt.

Jacobson birdied two of his last three holes to edge ahead of Scott and Oosthuizen, Oosthuizen producing an almost faultless round of 63 to almost catch Jacobson who had finished 45 minutes earlier.

“I think I’ve just been striking the ball really well,” said Jacobson. “I’ve been driving the ball really well over these first two days.

“I got a new driver a couple of weeks ago and it just seems to work really well. I feel I’ve been having pretty good distance off the tees, and if I can hit it straight, which I have so far, I’m going to get some good looks with my irons,” added the Swede.

Scott’s round was highlighted by a run of six birdies in seven holes during his front nine and then two birdies to finish his round of 65 and in his first event since the Tour Championship he looked remarkably sharp.

“It was a good round today to keep pace with the leaders.” said Scott. “I got off to a fairly fast start on the front-nine. It was nice to make a couple on the back nine to take advantage of the good front-nine,” said Scott.

“I’m pleased to be in touch but obviously scoring is low, so I’m going to have to play well on the weekend to keep in touch with them.”

First round leader Keegan Bradley appeared as if he might blow the tournament apart when he was quickly out of the blocks with an early eagle but a round of 70 was the best he could do. He sits just two behind the lead.

Aaron Baddeley is the next best of the Australians after Scott in a share of 7th position, John Senden improved with a second round of 68 to be in 22nd position, David Gleeson is 30th, Geoff Ogilvy is 44th, Stuart Appleby 63rd, Alistair Presnell 72nd and Adam Bland 75th.

There is no cut in this event.
