Ueda wins Mizuno Classic

After nearly four years of competing on the LPGA Tour, Japan’s Momoka Ueda has broken through for her first LPGA Tour victory as a member by defeating Shanshan Feng in a playoff to win the Mizuno Classic in Mie in Japan

The 25 year old Ueda actually won this event in 2007 and earned the right to play the LPGA Tour but at the time she won the event back then she was a non member of the LPGA.

Ueda led Feng by four heading into the final round but the emerging 22 year old Chinese star produced a brilliant final round of 65 to catch the leader.

Both players had the opportunity to win the event on the final hole but would miss birdie opportunties. It took three visits to the 18th before Ueda birdied from 15 feet for the title

For Ueda it was also her 9th victory on the Japan Ladies Tour, a tour on which she was a dominant figure before heading to the US in 2008.

Feng has been playing the Japan Golf Tour this season where she has won on two occasions and she continues to fly the flag for the female game in her homeland.

Korea’s Na Yeon Choi continued her brilliant season when she finished in third position.

Karrie Webb was the leading Australian when she finished in 13th position while Canberra’s Japan LPGA Tour player Nikki Campbell was 46th.

The LPGA Tour now leaves Asia and heads to Mexico for the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
