Fowler and Harwood chase US riches

BY Bruce Young | Champions Tour | 2011 Champions Tour Q-School | Preview | 15 Nov 2011

Peter Fowler and Mike Harwood are the two Australians to line up at this week’s Champions Tour Qualifying School in Arizona which gets underway this evening at the TPC Champions Course in Scottsdale.

In what has always been a tough examination, 78 players will line up for one of five full cards to the 2012 Champions Tour with a further seven conditional cards.

Fowler has had an exceptional season in Europe leading the money list there and winning on two occasions while Harwood is currently in 6th position in Europe.

Few Australians have graduated to the Champions Tour over the years. Since the introduction of official qualifying, Graham Marsh, Rodger Davis, Mike Fergusson, Stewart Ginn and Peter Senior have all made it through although Fergusson’s card was a conditional one.

At present only Senior actively plays a full schedule on the Champions Tour but hopefully one or both of the Australians can earn their way to the lucrative tour in 2012.
