Lee Westwood completed a great week for the world number two and three golfers with a win at the Nedbank Challenge at Sun City in South Africa.
Just a few hours after the game’s second highest ranked player, Rory McIlroy, won the Hong Kong Open Westwood took out the lucrative first prize, successfully defending the title he won twelve months ago.
Westwood won US$1.25 million for the week and heads to Dubai in the best possible form to tackle yet another huge purse at the Dubai World Championship.
Westwood’s brilliance on Saturday, when he produced a round of 62, spreadeagled the field but Robert Karlsson at least kept him honest with the best final round of the day (68) to get within two.
Jason Dufner and Graeme McDowell tied for 3rd while Kim Kyung Tae was alone in 5th position.
Even the last placed player in the twelve strong field, Darren Clarke, earned US$250,000.
In the Nedbank Senior Challenge, Mark Calcavecchia defeated Bernhard Langer by one.
