Lyle and Green regain PGA Tour status
BY Bruce Young | US PGA Tour | 2011 USPGA Tour Q-School - Final Stage | Wrap | 06 Dec 2011
The US PGA Tour School has been completed and only Jarrod Lyle and Nathan Green, amongst the Australasians, have been able to finish inside the all important top twenty five and regain their playing privileges on the PGA Tour for 2012.
Just as he had done last year, Lyle bounced back from a disappointing season on the PGA Tour to finish 5th, the same position he had finished twelve months ago at the Final Stage.
Nathan Green put up a tremendous fight to overcome a slow start to the six round event by producing a final round of 66 to again earn his way to the PGA Tour. After a horror season in which he finished 168th on the money list he has done well to get through both Stage Two and the Final.
Green actually finished in a tie for 27th this week but because two of those who finished inside the top 25 were in the event only to try and improve their status on the PGA Tour, Green has done enough to play his way back to the big time.
Steve Bowditch who already has the benefit of knowing he will play perhaps 15 – 20 PGA Tour events in any case next year finished 38th as did Sydney’s Matt Jones who was inside the required mark for most of the week until a last round of 75 cost him dearly.
Like Bowditch, however, Jones will also have conditional status on the PGA Tour in 2012.
The tournament was won by Brendon Todd who not only secured the all important top position but a cheque for US$50,000. Todd plays the PGA Tour for the first time next year although is a previous Nationwide Tour winner.
