Hillier leads Lake Macquarie

West Australian golfer, Whitney Hillier, has taken control of the Greater Building Society’s Lake Macquarie Women’s Amateur Championship at the Belmont Golf Club near Newcastle.
The 20 year old from Joondalup Golf Club in Perth’s northern suburbs put together a stunning course record round of 68 to take a five shot lead into round three after starting the second day four shots behind the defending champion Breanna Elliott from Victoria.
Hillier eagled two of her first four holes in round two to set up her great round. Hillier, who spent more than twelve months out of the game in 2010 and 2011 with a damaged wrist, is once again showing the sort of form that made her one of Australia’s brightest young prospects before the injury. Amongst her many titles, she won the Australian Girls Championship in 2008.
Elliott and her fellow Victorian Grace Lennon share second position, Elliott faltering with a round of 77 and Lennon recording the second best round of the day (71)
