Form golfers contend at Lake Macquarie

BY Bruce Young | Australian Mens Amateur Tour | 2012 Lake Macquarie Amateur | Round One | 26 Jan 2012

Conditions today for the opening round of the Greater Building Society’s Men’s Lake Macquarie Amateur at the Belmont Golf Club near Newcastle were remarkably good considering the original forecast and after the opening round it is the Queenslander Daniel Nisbet who leads.

Nisbet, who has been runner-up in each of his last two tournaments at the Australian Masters of the Amateurs and the Australian Amateur Championship last week, opened with a round of 65 to lead the man to whom he ran second on Sunday, Marcel Schenider of Germany, by one shot.

In third position with rounds of 67 are currrent New Zealand Amateur Champion Matthew Perry, South Australian Brad Moules, local Toronto golfer, Callen O’Reilly, Victorian Todd, Sinott, and recent Master of the Amateurs winner, Nathan Holman.

The second of four rounds of the event gets under way tomorrow at 7.00am with both Nisbet and Schneider playing in the morning group.
