Nationwide Tour in Panama

BY Bruce Young | Web.com Tour | 2012 Panama Claro Open | Preview | 29 Feb 2012

The Nationwide Tour plays the second event of its 2012 schedule this week when it heads to Panama Golf Club Panama City for the Panama Claro Championship.

The Nationwide Tour has been coming to this venue since 2004, last year’s winner, Mathew Goggin now of course on the PGA Tour but other recent winners including Fran Quinn and two time winner at the venue Vance Veazey with both Quinn and Veazey teeing it up this year.

Grainy greens, strong winds and very hot temperatures make this a demanding week, the layout statistically amongst the most demanding on the Nationwide Tour schedule.

In 2011 the event proved good for Australians with Goggin winning the tournament, Alistair Presnell finishing joint runner-up and Gavin Coles 6th.

There is a strong line-up from down under this year also. Steve Alker, Steve Bowditch, Scott Gardiner, Bronson La Cassie, Peter Lonard, James Nitties, Cameron Percy, Ewan Porter, Alistair Presnell, Aaron Price, Michael Sim and Tim Wilkinson are in the field.
