Toru Taniguchi, a seventeen time winner on the Japan Golf Tour, has the halfway lead at the Japan PGA Championship at the Karasumayajo Country Club near Utsunomiya north of Tokyo.

The 42 year old Taniguchi won this event two years ago at another venue but today extended his one shot overnight lead to three with a round of 70 to lead over Keiichiro Fukabori.

Brendan Jones leads the Australasians in the field, the Canberra golfer in 11th position at 3 under and six from the lead.

Brad Kennedy was the only other Australasian to make the cut when he finished right on the cut score and ten shots from the lead.
