Sectional qualifying for the US Open takes place over 36 holes at eleven venues across the United States on Monday June 4th where final places for the second major championship of the year, the US Open, will be decided.
Most Australasians chasing a place in the field will play at either at the Scioto Country Club and the OSU’s Scarlet Course close to the venue for this week’s Memorial in Columbus in Ohio or at the Germantown Country Club near Memphis near to where next week’s Fed Ex St Jud Classic will take place.
In Columbus Robert Allenby, Ashley Hall, Nick O’Hern, Marc Leishman, Matthew Goggin, Matthew Guyatt, Terry Pilkadaris, Stuart Appleby and Bryden Macpherson are amongst those currently in the line-up.
At the Germantown Golf Club Gavin Coles, Josh Geary, Nathan Green, Mark Hensby, Matthew Jones and Danny Lee are included in the field.
While the bulk of the Australasians are competing at these two venues several others are scattered around the other nine venues.
The final number of places available at each venue is not determined until the day of competition.
The only other means of a player gaining an exemption now is to play his way inside the top 60 in the world ranking by June 11th. Currrently Greg Chalmers (66th) and Robert Allenby (80th) have outside chances of that but they will need something special either this week at the Memorial or at next week’s Fed Ex St Jude event.
