Nationwide Tour in Mexico

The Nationwide Tour is in Mexico this week for the Mexico Open at the El Bosque Country Club in Leon.

The tournament was won last year by heart transplant recipient Erik Compton who has gone on to join the PGA Tour this season but who created quite a stir last year when he won by two over Richard H Lee to record his first Nationwide Tour victory.

Other winners of the event since it was first played have been Jarrod Lyle, Troy Merritt and Jamie Lovemark.

Leading money winner Luke List is in the field after narrowly missing a start at the US Open on Monday.

Last week’s winner James Hahn is another leading player to be missing from this week’s field after qualifying on Monday for the US Open.

Australia’s two leading players on the 2012 money list, Cameron Percy and Nick Flanagan, are taking a break this week and so, provided he plays, Alistair Presnell after his great effort to get a start at the US Open will be Australia’s leading money winner in the field. He may though choose to take a week off before the big event next week in San Francisco.

Scott Gardiner 35th and Peter Lonard 40th are the next best of the Australians on the money list.

Footnote – Peter Lonard now has a last minute start in the PGA Tour event in Memphis and will start there instead.
