MasterCard and IMG are delighted to announce that world No.8 Adam Scott, Australia's top-ranked player, will contest the 2005 MasterCard Masters from December 8-11 at Huntingdale Golf Course in Melbourne, Victoria.
25-year-old Scott has already ten international tour victories in his five year professional career, three of those wins coming in 2005. Scott won the rain shortened Nissan Open on the US Tour in February. He then beat Retief Goosen by three shots in Beijing to win the Johnnie Walker Classic (an event sanctioned by the European, Australasian and Asian Tours). More recently, Scott clinched the Singapore Open by seven strokes from Lee Westwood.
Scott has come extremely close to claiming his first Gold Jacket at the MasterCard Masters in recent years. He finished runner-up at Huntingdale in 2002 and 2003 but was denied on both occasions in a sudden-death playoff. In 2002, he lost in a three-man playoff, with Peter Lonard eventually winning the title. Then a year later, Scott finished brilliantly on the final day with a 64 to make a four-man playoff only to ultimately bow out to the winner Robert Allenby.
Adam Scott holds four US Tour titles including the 2004 PLAYERS Championship - one of the most prestigious events in America. He has also won five times on the European Tour and once on the Asian Tour. The Queenslander was also a vital member of the International Team that narrowly lost to the USA in The Presidents Cup recently, winning three of his five matches.
The MasterCard Masters was first played in 1979 at Huntingdale Golf Club and holds a special place on the Australasian Tour calendar. Greg Norman has won the Masters a record six times while Craig Parry has won on three occasions. Other illustrious names to have won at Huntingdale include Colin Montgomerie, Michael Campbell and Bernhard Langer.
