Open Championship starts at Mizuno Open

BY Bruce Young | Japan Tour | 2012 Gateway to the Open Mizuno Open | Preview | 21 Jun 2012

This week’s Gateway to the Open Mizuno Open on the Japan Golf Tour is so named because of the opportunities it offers members of the Japan Golf Tour to play the Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

The leading four players in this event not otherwise qualified to play the Open Championship will earn the right to do so as will the leading two players on the Japan Tour money list at the completion of the event.

Brendan Jones managed to get a start at the US Open via Japan Tour qualifying and the possibility exists for him to be at Royal Lytham & St Annes as he is currently in third position on the money list and this week is playing an event he has won previously and on the golf course being used this week.

Other Australasians in the field this week are Kurt Barnes, Nick Cullen, Brad Kennedy, Neven Basic, David Smail, Richard Lee and Steve Conran.
