It's a boy for Jason

Playing with the growing expectation of fatherhood over the past few weeks, Australian golfer Jason Day can be forgiven for the distraction caused by he and wife Ellie’s pending arrival of their first child.

Day’s form in recent events has been a roller coaster of sorts producing three top tens in his last six starts but missing two cuts also, perhaps a reflection on the anticipation of Plan B’s he had put in place at events just in case Ellie went into early labour.

Today, according to a report by AP reporter Ben Everill, the wait is over with the arrival of Dash James Day and now the question in many people’s mind is whether Day will play in next week’s Open Championship given the significant moment in his life.

Day is of course scheduled to play in his third Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes but he has thrown out plenty of signals of late that his family comes first and it may well be that he sits this one out.
