Drewitt's brilliance earns US Am start
BY Bruce Young | 24 Jul 2012
NSW golfer Brett Drewitt has produced a simply stunning second round of 63 at his venue in Blaine in Minnesota and has qualified to play golf’s most significant championship in amateur golf, the US Amateur Championship.
Drewitt led the 70 hopefuls at his venue.
Drewitt, the 2012 NSW Amateur Champion, rallied back from an outward nine of 40 in his opening round and a bogey at his first hole in round two to set up the chance to play the US Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills Golf Club in Colorado beginning on August 13th.
Drewitt will join fellow Australians Jake Higginbottom, Daniel Nisbet and Cameron Smith who are already in the field with qualifying at other venues still to be completed.
The last time the US Amateur was played at the Cherry Hills was in 1990 when Phil Mickelson defeated Manny Zerman to win his only US Amateur Championship.
