Andrew Martin leads in Yeppoon

BY Bruce Young | 26 Jul 2012

The 72 hole Pat O’Driscoll Real Estate / Tropical Auto Group- QLD got underway today at the Capricon International Resort in Yeppoon and it is the Victorian Andrew Martin who has the lead.

Martin, a former Australian Amateur Champion and runner-up to Mike Hendry at the New Zealand PGA Pro Am Championship earlier this year, recorded a round of 66 on the easier Resort Course at the Capricorn Resort and leads by one over last week’s winner of the Rockhampton Pro-Am Peter Wilson and Queenslander Brett Rankin.

The event is being played over the two courses at the Resort, the Peter Thomson designed Resort Course and the Karl Litten designed Championship course and the difference between the two layouts was evident today with the leading eight scores coming from those who played the Resort layout.

The tournament carries prize-money of $100,000 and, as a consequence, a high quality field of Australian professionals without a regular tour on which to play elsewhere have teed it up.
