Goss defeated but not without a fight

The great run by West Australian Oliver Goss has come to an end at the US Amateur Championship at Cherry Hills in Colorado, the 18 year old beaten 2 down at the final hole by American Justin Thomas in today’s quarter finals
Goss made a great start to the encounter when he birdied the 3rd and 4th holes to go two up in his match. He would bogey the 7th and 8th and 9th holes the match and fell one behind and although he birdied the 10th to get the match back on even terms, Thomas birdied the 11th and 12th holes to establish what would eventually be a winning break.
For Goss however it has been a week where he has made big strides in terms of his own game and his place in Australian golf.
Goss’s immediate future involves a collegiate golfing career at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
Based on what we have seen this week he will be a great addition to the ’Volunteers’.
In tomorrow’s semi finals Justin Thomas will face Californian Michael Weaver and Steve Fox of Tennessee will play Californian Brandon Hagy.
