Rumford contending at Johnnie Walker

Englishmen Richard Finch and Mark Foster lead the Johnnie Walker Championship through 36 holes at Gleneagles in Scotland, the pair holding a narrow one shot advantage over in from Scotsman Paul Lawrie and Australian Brett Rumford.
Pre tournament favourites Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari are at 5 under and 4 under respectively and in 7th and 9th positions.
Finch is currently ranked 236 in the world and apart from a good week at the China Open and a midfield finish at the recent OneAsia Tour event in Thailand there has not been a lot to get excited about in 2012.
Foster has certainly been in better form than his co-leader of late, a 5th at the Irish Open the highlight of his year to date.
Rumford finished runner-up in this event behind Edoardo Molinari in 2010 and clearly has a comfort zone at Gleneagles. Rumford has not recorded a top ten anyway in more than 15 months and with four missed cuts in his last five events he is clearly enjoying being back at the Jack Nicklaus designed Monarch layout.
Victorian Daniel Gaunt had to rely on a late withdrawal in order for him just to get a start in the event but he has done well to make the cut. He is in 40th position and along with Rumford is one of only two Australasians making it to the weekend.
