Crooked Stick hosts FedEx Round three

The FedEx Cup Playoffs head to the northern suburbs if Indianapolis in Indiana for the third, and second to last, event of the 2012 series with the BMW Championship being played at the famed Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel.
Crooked Stick gained fame for the victory by the last minute alternate, John Daly, at the PGA Championsip in 1991 although other significant events the venue has hosted include the US Women’s Open, the US Senior Open and the Solheim Cup.
The 1964 constructed layout was designed by the husband and wife team of Pete and Alice Dye and plays over 7,400 yards from the tournament tees.
The tournament includes all of the 70 leading players on the FedEx Cup points table headed by Rory McIlroy, Nick Watney and Tiger Woods.
With no prior form on the golf course to on to give us some sort of guide to the likely outcome of the event, the most likely candidates will be those in form at present with the likes of McIlroy, Woods, Watney, Luke Donald, Louis Oosthuizen, Brandt Snedeker, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Keegan Bradley sure to have their followers in terms of winning prospects.
Garcia’s involvement will be of interest given he gave up the chance to play last week and instead had a rest as he recharged the batteries for the final two events of the Playoffs and the Ryder Cup. Whether that was a wise thing to do remains to be seen but there is little doubt that prior to last week’s break he was finding some impressive form.
Australians in the field include Adam Scott who is warming to his task once again and can be expected to be a factor this week, John Senden, Greg Chalmers, Geoff Ogilvy and Marc Leishman.
Their aim will be to be inside the top 30 at the completion of this week in order that they progress to the Tour Championship in Atlanta in two week s time.
