Dyson chasing four KLM titles
BY Bruce Young | European PGA Tour | 2012 KLM Open | Preview | 06 Sep 2012
The European this week Tour moves back west to the Hilversumche Golf Club in the Netherlands, the venue for this week’s KLM Open.
The event became the KLM Open in 2004 but essentially it is the national open championship of The Netherlands.
The defending champion is Simon Dyson who is chasing his fourth KLM Open title in seven years although only one of those three victories has been in Hilversum.
Dyson has not been at his best in recent starts although he did play well at the Bridgestone WGC event where he finished 16th.
Favouritism in the event probably goes to Nicolas Colsaerts although the 2010 champion Martin Kaymer is the highest ranked player in the field. Kaymer though is battling against poor form of late, a concern for this event and for the Ryder Cup ahead.
Colsaerts is now a Ryder Cupper and has been one of the finds of 2012. He finished 8th in this event two years ago at the Hilverschume Golf Club and seems likely to justify his favourtism.
David Lynn appears to me to a great prospect this week. The runner-up behind McIlroy at the recent PGA Championship is a previous winner and runner-up in Hilversum and the chances of his winning again seem good.
Peter Hanson also played well at the PGA Championship when he finished 7th but that aside there has not been a lot to get excited about in recent starts.
Australasians in the field include the in form Marcus Fraser, Brett Rumford, Richard Green, Andrew Dodt, Matthew Zions and the improving New Zealander Michael Campbell
