BY Bruce Young | 06 Sep 2012

The 2012 Norris Motor Group Royal Queensland Cup to be staged on September 14th is expecting a class line up this year with the news last week that professionals will be playing for $60,000 in prizemoney, making it the richest single day Pro Am in the country in 2012.

Some of the players confirmed for the Royal Queensland Cup this year include NSW Open Champion Adam Crawford, NSW PGA Champion Matthew Guyatt, New Zealand PGA Champion and Aaron Townsend and Ashley Hall who both competed in this year’s British Open. The event is strengthened by a group of Victorians including in form David McKenzie.

The 202 metre 8th hole will offer all the Professionals the opportunity to win a $60,000 Volkswagen Scirocco for the first hole in one courtesy of naming rights sponsor the Norris Motor Group. With the recent changes in rules by Golf Australia the amateurs playing will also have the chance to win a $60,000 Volkswagen Passat for the first hole in one at the 167 metre 11th hole.

General Manager, Andrew Kirkman, is looking forward to the one time of the year the Club opens its doors to host such an event. "This year’s field is the strongest in years and we expect some quality scores in the mid to high 60’s to win. With $185,000 of prize money, cars and trophies on offer there will be significant interest in the Norris Motor Group Royal Queensland Cup Pro Am.

The new layout has been widely regarded as one of the standout courses in Australia and rated amongst Queensland’s best. Late last year Course Designer Michael Clayton proposed the construction of five new sandy waste areas to further enhance the course. These developments were completed earlier in 2012 and will further strengthen the Championship layout and natural links style of the course.
