Griffin breaks clear in Korea

BY Bruce Young | OneAsia Tour | 2012 Charity High1 Resort Open | Round Three | 08 Sep 2012

Australian Matthew Griffin, the 981st ranked player in the world, takes a two shot lead into the final round of the High 1 Resort after a day which saw a hole shortened due to the impact of fog.

Griffin, a professional for nearly four years but without a victory at this level, dropped two shots late in his round but he had done enough early on day three to establish a significant lead and by day’s end he led by two over Sang hyun Park and by three over Bio Kim and Aaron Townsend.

Griffin is yet to win on the OneAsia Tour and has generally struggled in the limited number of events in which he has played in 2012. He did though put together a solid tournament at last week’s Jeep event on the Gold Coast suggesting his game was on the improve.

Townsend today recovered from a horror quadruple bogey at the par five 6th hole to record a round of 70 to be just three back.

Bio Kim, who played the PGA Tour in 2011, has had poor season on the Web.com Tour in the US but is a good performer at home in Korea where he won two One Asia events earlier this year.

David McKenzie is the next best Australian in 11th position six shots off Griffin’s lead.
