Play abandoned at Royal Liverpool

“The Rules Committee has declared the scores returned this morning null and void in accordance with Rule 33-2d. The competitors began their round in extremely adverse weather conditions and conditions subsequently worsened despite our belief that they would remain stable.

It would have been unfair to those competitors not to declare play null and void and cancel all scores for the round in question."

This statement from the LGU summed up the situation following an early halt in play on day two of the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.

Play was initially called off at 8.25 am after high winds had caused chaos amongst the early starters. At 2.00pm a final decision was made to abandon play for the day with no scores being official and those who had recorded scores wiping the slate clean to start again on day three.

The revised schedule will now have the final 36 holes played on Sunday.

Koreans So Yeon Ryu and Haeji Kang lead the way after their opening rounds of 70 on Thursday with Australians Stacey Keating and Karrie Webb amongst a large group at 1 under and just one behind.
