Former world number one amateur, Morgan Hoffman, has a three shot lead as the Web.Com Tour’s WNB Classic heads into the weekend at the Midland Golf Club in Midland in Texas.
Hoffman, currently 103rd on the money list this season leads defending champion and 2008 US Amateur Champion, Danny Lee, and another former top amateur Jamie Lovemark with Craig Bowden and Australian Cameron Percy in a share of 4th position.
Lee is playing this week’s event as he readies himself for the Fall Series on the PGA Tour which begin in two weeks time.
Percy dropped four places last week to 16th on the money list and while he should be well enough placed to regain his PGA Tour card a good finish to this weekend would put to bed any concerns in that regard.
Hoffman, a former Walker Cup player during his time at Oklahoma State, was home in 31 today for his round of the day 64 to open up a three shot lead.
It is just Hoffman’s 8th start on the Web.Com Tour this season although he did finish 29th at the US Open.
Lee’s fellow New Zealander, Tim Wilkinson, is in a share of 8th position, Steve Bowditch is 14th, Steve Allan is 21st, with Steve Alker and Alistair Presnell next best in 37th position.
