South Pacific Open underway

BY Bruce Young | 26 Sep 2012

The South Pacific Golf Open gets underway today at the Tina Golf Course in Noumea, an event which effectively kick starts the second half of the PGA Tour of Australasia’s 2012 season.

The A$120,000 event will be followed by three consecutive events in Western Australia through the middle of October including the Perth International followed by the Australian Masters, the New Zealand Open, the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship from mid November.

The event is being played for the second occasion as a PGA Tour of Australasia event.

The South Pacific Open is essentially a second tier event although it has attracted a field which includes the leader of last year’s OneAsia Tour Order of Merit, Andre Stolz and the recent winner of the OneAsia Tour event in Korea and defending champion, Matt Griffin.

Promising New Zealand rookie Ryan Fox is also in the field as are former NSW Open Champion, Aaron Townsend, current NSW PGA Champion, Matthew Guyatt, and US Open starter this season, Anthony Summers.
