Smail best of Australasians in Nagoya

Korean golfer Eun-Shin Park and Japan’s Masahiro Kawamura lead the Japan Golf Tour’s Coca Cola Tokai Classic at the halfway mark of the event at the Miyoshi Country Club in Nagoya.

Neither player has yet to win on the Japan Golf Tour, 22 year old Park and 19 year old Kawamura both in their rookie seasons.

The pair leads by one over the winner of last month’s KBC Augusta event, Hyun-Sung Kim.

Only one Australasian made it to the weekend. David Smail is in 8th position at 1 under and three from the lead on a golf course that has played very difficult over the opening two days. Long rough and firm greens have proven a handful for the field.

The last of Smail’s five Japan Golf Tour victories came in 2005 and having missed his last two cuts this year he will be keen to take advantage of this good opportunity on a golf course he has played well in the past.

The number two player on the money list, Australian Brendan Jones, missed his second cut of the Japan Tour season by just one shot after a round of 78 today. The cut fell at 7 over.
