Ryu a new winner on Japan Golf Tour

Korean golfer Hyun-Woo Ryu has today won his first event on the Japan Golf Tour with a playoff victory over Shingo Katayama at the Coca Cola Tokai Classic in Nagoya.

The 31 year old Ryu, who is in his rookie season on the Japan Golf Tour, recorded a final round of 71 take the tournament into extra time against Katayama who 40 minutes earlier had completed a final round of 66 to set the target for eventual winner.

Leading world ranked player in the event, Kyung Tae Kim, finished alone in third position.

David Smail was the only Australasian to make the cut and finished in a share of 6th position, the New Zealander recording his best finish in Japan in more than two years.

The Japan Golf Tour now plays the Canon Open.
