Australians contend in Washington DC

BY Bruce Young | 06 Oct 2012

Sweden’s David Lingmerth leads the Neediest Kids Championship at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Maryland, consecutive rounds of 66 opening up a one shot lead over American Josh Persons and Canadian Brad Fritsch.

It is timely for Lingmerth that he has found a vein of form as, at number 27 on the money list, a top two or three finish this week could well guarantee him a place on the PGA Tour next season.

The leading Australian is Queenslander Bronson La Cassie who is currently outside the top 100 on the money list and has made only eight of 22 cuts this season. La Cassie is in a share of 4th position and only two from the lead. The 29 year old is a former University of Minnesota collegiate player.

La Cassie recovered from an early bogey for his second consecutive round of 67.

In 6th position is Alistair Presnell who is also chasing a good finish or two over the next two to three weeks. Presnell is currently in 55th position on the money list and in order for him to secure a place in the field for the Tour Championship in three weeks time he needs to be inside the top 60.

This week’s event is followed by tournaments in Miami and Jacksonville before the season ending Tour Championship in Dallas.

James Nitties shares 11th position three shots from the lead.
