Australians contend in Miami

The Miccosukee Championship has reached its halfway stage at the Miccosukee Golf Club in Miami and the three leading Australians on this year’s Web.com Tour money list are in contention once again.
The event is being led by Americans Steve LeBrun and Christopher DeForest, both two shots ahead of Australian Victorian Cameron Percy with another Victorian Alistair Presnell and NSW’s Scott Gardiner one shot further back.
Both Percy and Gardiner are assured of a place on the PGA Tour in 2013 but for Presnell, who moved up 16 places last week to 39th on the money list when 3rd in Maryland, this week is another very important opportunity.
With just this week’s event, next week’s Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open and the Tour Championship before PGA Tour cards are handed out to the leading 25 money winners, this is again another great chance for Presnell to continue his recent progress.
Aron Price is the next best Australian in 16th position, the Sydney golfer no doubt keen to achieve his first goal of playing his way into the top 60 on the money list in order to qualify for the Tour Championship. Price is currently 69th on the money list.
Peter Lonard suffered another blow this week when he was forced to withdraw halfway through his opening round with a back complaint. He expects to be back for next week’s event in Jacksonville.
