Artwal leads Coles 4th in Georgia

India’s Arjun Atwal has the lead at the McGladreys Classic on Sea Island in Georgia, the 39 year old reeling off a second round of 63 to be one ahead of tournament host Davis Love 111 and Jim Furyk, both of whom have bounced back from the disappointment of Medinah three weeks ago.
Rookie Bud Cauley, David Toms, Greg Owen and Australian Gavin Coles are next in a share of 4th position and two behind the lead.
Artwal has had a tough season to date in 2012 and is currently in 175th position on the money list. A top two performance this week becomes almost imperative if he is to retain his playing privileges for 2013.
Coles’ round of 65 sets up an opportunity to improve markedly on his current on the money list. Coles has made the cut in more than half of the events in which he has played in 2012 but has struggled to contend.
Currently 197th on the money list he will do well just to avoid having to attend Stage Two qualifying.
Interestingly in was during this same week last year that Coles won the Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open to get back to the PGA Tour.
Mathew Goggin is another in need of something special this week and he has made a very good start to do just that with a round of 66 today to be in a share of 7th position. Goggin has begun to play well in the past two weeks or so and he needs to as he is currently 194th on the money list.
Jason Day and Steve Bowditch are next best of the Australasians in 14th position while Rod Pampling and New Zealander Danny Lee are 20th.
