The Web.com Tour’s Winn Dixie Jacksonville Open Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach has reached its halfway stage and it is 35 year old B.J. Staten who leads the event into the weekend.
Staten, who has yet to win on either the Web.Com or PGA Tours, leads by one over Ron Whitaker, Doug la Belle and Australian James Nitties.
Nitties has been the standout of the many Australians in this week’s field. A second round of 66 has him poised to make the sort of impact he needs to get inside the top 60 and earn a start in the Tour Championship next week.
Currently 116th on the money list Nitties would need to finish either first or second this week to get a start in Dallas and keep alive his hopes of making it to the PGA Tour once again next year without having to go to Tour School.
Nick Flanagan is 46th this week and Scott Gardiner and New Zealander Grant Waite 57th.
For 48 year old Waite, a former winner of the Kemper Open on the PGA Tour, this was just his third start of the year on the Web.Com Tour.
