Dimitrios Papadatos (Moore Park Golf Club) has won the 2012 Queensland Men’s Stroke Play Championship in very windy conditions at the Southport Golf Club on the Gold Coast.
A third round of three -under par (68) allowed Papadatos to take a commanding eight shot lead heading into the final 18-holes. Papadatos continued his good form in the afternoon and signed for an even -par 71.
Papadatos’s four round total of 273 (-11) was enough to give him the title.
Overnight joint leader Taylor Macdonald (Nudgee) found it tough in the morning round where he recorded a five over-par 76. In the final round Macdonald closed with a two under-par 69 to finish on 279 (-5) to take outright second.
James Gibellini (Emerald Lakes) made his charge on the final day with a 72 (+1) in round three. In the afternoon Gibellini recorded a final round of 70 (-1) to finish outright third on 281 (-3).
Jack Sullivan (Palmer Colonial) has won the Champion of Champions. Sullivan (pictured) fired rounds of 68 (-3), 67(-4)- 135. Daniel McGraw (Gailes) finished runner-up three shots back with rounds of 74, 64-138. The Champion of Champion’s event is open to all players who have won a Club Championship in the previous year.
The leading sixteen players will now move north to the Pacific Harbour Golf Club on Bribie Island for the Queensland Amateur Championship beginning on Thursday.
The Queensland Women’s Strokeplay Championship was completed at Pacific Harbour today and it was the Mandurah golfer Hayley Bettencourt who ran out the winner by six shots over fellow West Australian and Australian Espirito Team member Whitney Hillier.
