McLeod and Bettencourt claim QLD titles

Jake McLeod (Hills International) has survived two courageous fight-backs by Pymble Golf Club’s Luke Humphries to take the 2012 Queensland Men’s Amateur Championship at Pacific Harbour Golf and Country Club.

McLeod defeated Luke Humphries at the 38th hole of the scheduled 36 hole final in what were some of the most demanding conditions with strong blustery winds buffeting the Bribie Island layout.

McLeod, the 6th qualifier at the Queensland Stroke-play Championship at the Southport Golf Club earlier in the week, survived several close encounters to make it to the final and then held off a determined Humphries in today’s battle to win with a birdie at the second extra hole.

In the Queensland Women’s Amateur Championship the impressive West Australian, Hayley Bettencourt, easily accounted for Queenslander Ali Orchard, from the Surfers Paradise Golf Club, by a 6&5 margin.

Bettencourt made it a double for the week having won the Strokeplay, also at Pacific Harbour, on Tuesday.
