13 Nov 2012
The much anticipated release of a no holds barred story on the trials and tribulations of professional golf was made today.
In his debut as a book author, professional golfer Ewan Porter exposes the physical rigors, mental anguish, and personal sacrifices he and others must endure to compete on golf’s global stage.
Porter, 30, a native of Sydney, Australia, is a two-time winner on the Web.com Tour as well as a winner on the Australasian Tour. He has played in three British Open championships and has competed in tournaments around the world.
Porter has penned an insider’s look at the true life experiences of fresh-faced, driven and talented young men who dream of fame and fortune earned on golf’s fairways and greens. In a no-holds barred first-person narrative, he recounts the intense pressure, camaraderie, and travel horrors and cultural snafus he experienced in 47 American states and 25 foreign countries in his 10 years on tour.
Not afraid to describe his own meltdown in his quest for triumph and fan adulation, he pours out his emotions as he details multiple broken romances, two near misses at winning his country’s most important championship, the Australian Open, incessant injuries and ailments, and the decision to quit the game, not once, but three times.
Known as one of the game’s most fiery and feisty competitors, he has seen and experienced it all. He reveals the truth about substance abuse and rampant sexual infidelity by golfers on tour. He goes head to head with Donald Trump, and watches as his girlfriend gives President Bill Clinton a golf lesson on his 65th birthday.
Just recently, Porter worked as an on-course reporter for Fox Sports in Australia, and he is also a contributing columnist for Golf Australia. Porter now has his hands on a microphone and pen as well as a golf club, as he pursues new career challenges. The book’s foreword is written by fellow Aussie and 1979 Australian Open champion, Jack Newton O.A.M, and includes a section of revealing comments and testimonials from fellow tour players, caddies and members of the golf media. There are numerous photographs of Porter’s playing career as well as shots of him with President and Mrs. Clinton, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Aaron Baddeley, Peter Senior, and Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, among others.
The book is available on Amazon.com, Kindle,Nook, I-Phone and other e-Book sites for US$9.99. It is anticipated that a printed version will be published in early 2013.
