Duval leads Woods at Dunlop Phoenix

In what could only be termed a major but welcome surprise, David Duval has returned to the scene of his last tournament win and taken the lead after round one of the Dunop Phoenix Tournament in Japan.
Duval reached seven under par through thirteen holes of his opening round before two bogeys threatened to derail him but when he birdied his last hole of the day he had recorded a round of 64 and had opened up a one shot lead over defending champion, Tiger Woods.
Duval’s last win before his unprecedented slip from the golfing radar at this event just a few months after his British Open win in 2001. He has played a little better in recent weeks with a second round 65 in Las Vegas and made the cut at the Valero Texas Open but perhaps this, more than anything, is suggesting all is not lost for the former world number one.
