Gaunt and Arnold earn European cards

English based Victorian golfer Daniel Gaunt has regained his playing privileges for the European Tour with an impressive performance at the Final Stage qualifying which was completed in Spain overnight.

35 year old Gaunt recovered from a slow start to the 108 hole marathon to finish tied for 7th and will once again play the European Tour with full status in 2013.

Gaunt had European Tour status in 2011 after gaining access via his efforts on the Challenge Tour in 2010. A win that year at the English Challenge came as a result of earning a start in that event after several good results on the Europro Tour.

His best finish in 2011 was when 15th at the French Open and he lost his playing rights. In 2012 he has essentially played the Challenge Tour once again but without even a top ten he was forced to return to Tour School.

He is now back on the European Tour however and with the experience he now has behind him then a much better year can be expected in 2013.

New South Welshman Scott Arnold has also secured one of the top 25 and ties cards after sharing 24th position. The former Australian Amateur Champion will play the European Tour as a card holder for the first occasion.

Arnold’s effort was made all the more meritorious by virtue of him graduating through all stages of the qualifying process this year.

Terry Pilkadaris was the only other Australian to survive all six rounds but unfortunately finished in 60th position and will have Challenge Tour status only in 2013.
