Woods well placed to defend Dunlop Phoenix

IN: News | Japan | Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (2005) | Round Three | by Bruce Young | 19 Nov 2005

Tiger Woods again threatens to dominate proceedings on a "Dunlop Phoenix Sunday" when his third round of 68 saw him move one ahead of second round leader Jim Furyk and two ahead of David Duval and Kaname Yokoo. Twelve months ago Tiger took a ten shot lead into round four and won by eight and although his pursuers are much closer this year, he is still the man they have to catch.

Both Furyk and Woods were tied playing the par three 17th hole today but a bogey by Furyk saw Woods take the lead and when both managed to birdie the par five last, Woods retained his lead.

David Duval, so long out of contention, did well to cling to third place with a third round of 71 although it is likely that he will now play in the penultimate group tomorrow.

Michael Campbell is the best of the Australasians in seventh place at two under, with Robert Allenby 29th, Chris Campbell 35th, David Smail 48th, Steve Conran 50th and Scott Laycock 61st.
