Inaugural Heritage Classic

The PGA Tour of Australasia plays its second event of 2013 when the inaugural staging of the Lexus of Blackburn’s Heritage Classic at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Chirnside Park in the north east of Melbourne begins this Thursday.

The event is a Tier 2 event on the Australasian Tour schedule and carries prize-money of $A130,000 with the winner to receive $19,500.

The field consist of most of those who played last week’s Victorian PGA Championship but will be added to and headed by the recent Australian PGA Champion Daniel Popovic, New Zealanders Mike Hendry and Mark Brown along with Craig Parry, Peter O’Malley, last week’s runner up Scott Laycock and the winner last week, David McKenzie.

The runner-up at the Australian PGA Championship Anthony Brown is in the field as is Japan Tour player Kurt Barnes, Web.Com Tour player in 2013 Adam Crawford, OneAsia Tour event winners, Nic Cullen, Andre Stolz, Kim Felton and Matthew Griffin and leading amateurs Nathan Holman and last week’s Australian Amateur Championship runner-up Geoff Drakeford.

Popovic plays most of his social golf at the Heritage while Hendry, the runner-up in the 2012 Australasian Order of Merit, and Brown are no doubt in Melbourne to not only get their 2013 campaigns underway but, as will many others in this field, to play the International Final Qualifying for the Open Championship which will be staged next Tuesday at the Kingston Heath Golf Club.

Also in the field is the Queenslander Wayne Perske who last week returned to tournament golf after a two year break. He has again Monday qualified to play the event having done the same at last week’s Victorian PGA Championship before missing the cut.
