Munn and Drewitt lead Lake Macquarie

21 year old New Zealand golfer Josh Munn and New South Welshman Brett Drewitt lead the Lake Macquarie Men’s Championship through its halfway stage, the pair one shot ahead of Englishman Nathan Kimsey and another three shots back to pre tournament favourite Cameron Smith and Aaron Wilkin.
Munn, from the Manawatu Golf Club in Palmerston North, is a player good enough to have won a Charles Tour event against the professionals in New Zealand two years ago so although not New Zealand’s leading amateur his performance is no real surprise to those who are aware of his game.
Drewitt is the current NSW Amateur Champion, a title he will defend next week. Drewitt, originally from northern NSW but now playing out of the Long Reef Golf club in Sydney, suffered an injury in a car accident in October but recovered sufficiently to play the Asia Pacific Amateur Championship soon after and now appears to be getting back to his best form.
New Zealander Sam An who played well at last week’s Australian Amateur Championship, recorded the best round of the day (66) to move into a share of 7th.
