Alker and Gibson gain OneAsia cards

BY Bruce Young | 02 Feb 2013

New Zealander Steve Alker and American based Rhein Gibson are the two Australasians to gain OneAsia Tour cards via the USA version of OneAsia Tour qualifying this week.

The four round event was held at the Industry Hills Golf Club in Los Angeles where ten places were available to play the 2013 OneAsia Tour schedule.

The pair finished tied for 4th and with ten cards on offer they were comfortably through.

Alker, who has played mainly on the Web.com Tour without any real success in recent years, gets the chance to play a full schedule of events on the developing OneAsia Tour. The opening two events of the season are jointly sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour opening up further opportunities.

Gibson, originally from Lismore on the NSW North Coast, played collegiate golf in the US at Oklahoma Christian University before turning professional. He won the Oklahoma State Open but in mid 2012 he made a lot of people sit up and take notice when a round of 55 during a social day with friends was widely reported.

The second OneAsia qualifying venue will be played this coming week in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah in Malaysia where 14 cards are up for grabs for players from the Asia Pacific region.
