Thomas Horan, from the Cheltenham Golf Club in Melbourne, has won the NSW Medal after play was reduced to 54 holes due to an electrical storm which hit Sydney during the third and final day of the 72 hole event.

Horan thus becomes the leading qualifier for the NSW Amateur Championship which begins at Royal Sydney today.

Horan defeated England’s Nathan Kimsey by one shot while another Brit, Garrick Porteous, finished in a share of 3rd position with Bonnie Doon golfer Jordan Junic.

Horan’s final round of 67 was the best of the day and swept him past overnight leader Junic who the previous day had claimed the Champion of Champions title for Club Champions in NSW by five shots.

Horan takes on Luke Humphries from the Pymble Golf Club in this morning’s opening round while number two seed Kimsey tackles Travis Smyth from St Michael’s Golf Club.

Two rounds of elimination will be played today (Sunday 3rd February,) the Quarter and Semi finals will be played on Monday, followed by the 36 hole Final on Tuesday.

Defending champion Brett Drewitt tales on Ricky Kato in today’s first round after he qualified in 19th position.
