New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and South Korea’s Bae Seon Woo lead the field at the completion of 36 holes at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Womens’ Open at the Clearwater Golf Club in Christchurch.
Ko, one of the leading ranked players in the field despite being only 15 and still an amateur, recorded a second round of 68 today to move into the lead following an opening round of 70 yesterday.
Ko bogeyed her 16th hole but that aside it was another faultless exhibition from the current US Amateur Champion.
The performance of the day though came from Bae who late in the day finished off a round of 64 to catch Ko who had completed her round 40 minutes earlier.
Bae’s round is four shots better than any other recorded to date this week and established her as a potential challenger to Ko in tomorrow’s final round.
The pair lead by a shot over Spain’s Gulia Sergas with Australian Nikki Campbell heading the Australian contingent in 4th place alone and just two shots from the lead.
Spain’s Belen Mozo, American Amelia Lewis, Kim Min Sun and Australian Stacey Keating share 5th position.
Ko will be chasing her third professional title when she takes to the course tomorrow having won the NSW Open and the Canadian Open in 2012.
