Australians make big move in Malaysia

IN: News | by Bruce Young | 17 Oct 2002

After such a slow start yesterday for the Australian team at the Women's World Amateur teams Championship in Kuala Lumpur, they have bounced back today with rounds of 70 for both Katherine Hull and Lindsey Wright. The team has moved from twentieth to fifth place and remains eight behind the leaders Thailand but are now very much within striking distance.

They could have been much closer but for a disappointing finish for Hull who had reached six under par for the day as she stood on the sixteenth tee. A double bogey and bogey were to follow for her to finish with a three under seventy and move to sixth in the individual, four shots behind leader Tullia Calzavara of Italy. Vicky Uwland also produced a better effort today with a two under 71 and with the team now moving into another gear they are looming as serious threats with two rounds to play. Only the best two rounds each day count.

Germany are second three behind Thailand with Spain in third one shot further back.

The New Zealand team of Brenda Ormsby, Tina Howard and Wendy Hawkes has improved two places today to be in fifteenth with Tina Howard the best of them individually in 26th spot at three over.
